NEW TO ASHLAND PLACE UMC?Click here for more information.

Greetings APUMC Family,

There’s something about a rainy day that feels like a hymn to me. Maybe it’s the steady rhythm on the roof or maybe it’s the way the earth seems to breathe again as the rain soaks in – flowers perking up, leaves shining, soil softening, everything leaning toward the sky. I cherish how rain has a way of slowing us down and turning our hearts back toward the God who makes all things new. I hope you’ve had a moment today to simply pause and take it in.

As we move into the fall months, I want to share a few exciting things happening in the life of our church. First, we have relaunched our Acolyte Ministry! This ministry invites our children and youth to play an important role in worship. When the acolyte brings the light into the worship space, it symbolizes the light of Christ entering our midst. When the light is carried out at the end of the service, it reminds us that we carry Christ's light out into the world. Acolytes also help serve Communion and assist with the collection and presentation of the morning offering. Our prayer is that this ministry will be a space where our children and youth will grow in their understanding of worship, learn how to lead like Jesus, and experience the joy of serving God and their congregation.

We also have something new for young adults! A new young adult Sunday school class begins this Sunday at 10 a.m. We will start in the Fellowship Parlor, and in the weeks ahead, transition to an upstairs classroom. This class is designed specifically for college students, recent graduates, and young adults who are looking for a place to study Scripture, ask questions, connect with others who are in a similar season of life, and explore what it means to live out our faith. Whether you are just starting out on your faith journey or have been walking it for years, there is a seat for you at the table.

And lastly, our annual Blessing of the Pets is happening on Sunday, October 5th at 4:00 p.m. in the grassy area beside the Fellowship Hall parking lot. Bring your furry, feathered, or even scaly companions for a special time of prayer, music, fellowship and gratitude. It’s always a wonderful event for the whole family, and we hope to see you there!

God is doing something beautiful at Ashland Place – growing new things, drawing us closer, and reminding us that ministry happens through all of us, together. Togetherness…what a beautiful gift! I am beyond grateful to be on this journey with each of you. Let’s continue to be in prayer for these ministries and all the ways God is at work among us. To God be the glory!

With joy and hope,

Jennifer
